Antiques 8-1-09

This table is very old, from the Momoyama period. It is a very interesting piece. They seem to be an object that is forged quite often.

One interesting note is the bulbous flower or vegetable type image on the pullout drawer. The vegetable is called “uri” in Japanese. If the type of uri has the lines pictured in the images the name of the vegetable is akodauri. There is a type of incense container called koro, both “o”s are long. The koro that have lines in them, similar to the akodauri, are called akodakoro.  I don’t have any pictures of akodakoro.
